Ride culture

Riding in Japan

Japan gave the world keirin, now an Olympic event, and its road scene is thriving. The Japan Cup in Utsunomiya draws some of the biggest crowds in Asian cycling every October. Hill climb events, including the famous climbs up Mount Fuji, are hugely popular, and riders love beautifully designed kit.

Japanese riders have an eye for detail. That's who we design for.

Roads worth the trip

Shimanami Kaido. Around 70 kilometres linking islands across the Seto Inland Sea by a series of bridges, with dedicated cycle lanes. A world-famous ride.

Mount Fuji. The Fuji Subaru Line climbs high onto the volcano and hosts one of Japan's best known hill climb events.

Hakone. Steep, twisting climbs and hot springs within reach of Tokyo, a favourite weekend escape.

What to wear, season by season

Japanese summers are hot and humid, so a short sleeve kit is essential. Spring and autumn are perfect for riding with a long sleeve jersey, and winter calls for a long sleeve kit with bib tights.

Every Nordvelo design comes in men's and women's fits. Shop men's kit or women's kit.
