Riding in Austria

Austrian cycling revolves around the mountains. Every summer, thousands of riders tackle the Ötztaler Radmarathon, a sportive with well over 5,000 metres of climbing across four passes. The Tour of Austria brings racing to the same roads, and weekend riders head for the Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia whenever the passes open.

Long days in the mountains are a test of legs and kit. We make ours for exactly that.

Roads worth the trip

Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Austria's most famous road, climbing past 2,500 metres at the Hochtor with views of the country's highest peak. A truly epic day out.

Kitzbüheler Horn. A short, steep and painful climb above Kitzbühel, a regular feature of the Tour of Austria.

Ötztal and the Timmelsjoch. The heart of the Ötztaler Radmarathon route, with the long climb to the Timmelsjoch on the Italian border.

What to wear, season by season

The high Alpine roads usually open from late spring to autumn. Carry a windbreaker on every big day, and start cold mornings in a long sleeve jersey. In the valleys, a short sleeve kit covers summer, and bib tights carry you through winter.
